Bestiaire (1:12) 2012

Bestiaire was my least favorite showing of EFFY 2012. The documentary, with no dialogue, highlights a variety of wild animals at a Montreal animal park. Bestiaire opens in winter when the animals are indoors in shelters. This part of the film is difficult to watch and I actually left for several minutes. The animals are caged and restless. One lion repeatedly keeps banging up against the locked door, bringing to mind "like a caged animal". The documentary continues with the spring season as the animals are finally allowed outside and are free to roam in enlarged but fenced areas.
