Broken Hill (1:42) 2009
I absolutely love this movie!!!!!!!! Tommy, the teenage son of an Outback sheep rancher, has a dream to be a musical composer. His aspiration is to attend a conservatory in Sidney but his father, played by Timothy Hutton, a third generation rancher discourages Tommy from his plans. Tommy is attracted to an American teenager, Kat, and with other students gets into trouble with the law. Tommy and Kat, who plays the piano, are given twenty hours of community service. Tommy chooses to volunteer at the local prison and start a band and chorus. The prisoners practice with Tommy and Kat for a local competition in Broken Hill. The band travels to the competition but a prisoner escapes ruining Tommy's dream. There is one remaining competition in Sidney. Will the prisoners and Tommy be allowed to perform in Sydney? This movie is filmed in Australia and the desert scenery is fantastic especially the sunset scenes. The music uses both traditional and native instruments. The story moves along as Tommy battles with his father while trying to win over Kat. I've watched the ending scene close to a half a dozen times. Move this to the top of your queue.
