Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives (1:53) 2010
Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives is a Thai film which received both high critic praise and nominations for various awards. I have eagerly awaited this movie and viewed it yesterday and had to spend some time thinking about the movie. Uncle Boonmee is experiencing kidney failure and is dying. One night at dinner, his deceased wife of nineteen sits down at the dinner table and joins in the conversation. A little while later, Uncle Boonmee's son who left the village five years after his mother's death, also comes to the table. He has transformed into a wolf man type appearance. Boonmee decides to take a walk through the jungle and return to the cave in which he is born. I really don't know what to make of this movie as it is so culturally different from anything I have experienced. At the same time, there is something intriguing about this very quiet movie about life in rural Thailand.
