The Infidel (1:45) 2009

The Infidel is a British comedy about a Muslim family man that discovers he was adopted by his deceased parents when he was two weeks old. As he is coming to terms with the news of his adoption, Mahmud learns that he was given up for adoption by his Jewish birth parents. Mahmud, played by stand-up comedian Omid Djalili, is caught between two worlds. To further complicate matters, his son Tariq is engaged to marry the step-daughter of a radical Muslim. Mahmud locates his birth father at a local Jewish home for the aged and is prevented from visiting him by the rabbi. This is meant to be a comedy and there are some fun moments as Mahmud attends a bar mitzvah with his newly made friend, Lenny. There are some very serious moments when Mahmud reveals his true heritage on local television. His wife leaves him, not because he is Jewish, but he hid the truth from her. This is a movie filled with funny one-liners while dealing with a very serious subject. The Infidel is an engaging film while dealing with the issues of tolerance, prejudice and acceptance in a inoffensive manner. It's worth a look.
