Burlesque (1:40) 2010
Do you like Cher? Christina Aguilera? Lots of singing and dancing? If you answered yes to any of the questions, this is a movie for you. Aquilera portrays Ali, a small town gal, who heads for L.A. in hopes of being a singer. Ali ends up waitressing at a neo-burlesque nightclub owned by Tess (Cher). The nightclub is struggling and Tess is on the verge of being forced out of business. Ali eventually gets her break as a dancer in the chorus line. One night, the star dancer is sent home by Tess and pulls the plug on the sound system on the way out. This gives Ali a chance to belt out a song much to the every one's amazement. Realizing Ali has real talent, Tess changes the acts so Ali will be the star of the show. Of course, Ali is caught in the middle of love triangle and needs to decide if she wants the wealthy businessman who had designs on the club or the piano playing bartender? Will Tess be able to save her theater? I saw this movie on the big screen the week it was released. My first reaction was that I was unsure whether I would like it or not since the first musical number reminded me of Caberet which is a movie I didn't like. The good news was in a short amount of time, I really grew to like the movie and love the musical numbers. It was a real treat to see Cher on the big screen.
