Edge of America (1:45) 2003

Countdown to the NCAA Championships - Day 2
Made for cable television, Edge of America is a truly inspirational story. James McDaniels plays Ken Williams, a African American English teacher who takes job to teach on the Three Nations Reservations in Utah. He arrives and experiences culture shock, Ken has never been on a rez. And the girls have never had contact with an Africa American. The girls have a basketball team and they have very weak skills. Ken is asked to coach the team. He realizes that it will be an uphill struggle but accepts because he sees the raw talent in the girls. With practice and the addition of two new players, the girls begin to work as a team and win games. By the end of season, the girls are heading to the state finals. I watched this film when I rented it through Netflix. It is a true gem of a sports movie. It is heartwarming, humorous, and emotional. Edge of America is based on true events. The scenery, as it was filmed in Utah, is beautiful because of the mountains in the backdrop. This is a must see for basketball fans especially the followers of girls' teams.
